I studied Forensic Anthropology at the University of Toronto (Mississauga) prior to attending Osgoode Hall Law School. While in law school, I spent a semester working in the Landlord Tenant division of the Parkdale Community Legal Clinic, assisting underprivileged parties. I also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada, assisting self-represented parties in preparing their court documents. These experiences affirmed for me that helping people directly allows me to feel professionally fulfilled.
My interest in family law began when I was adopted by my maternal grandparents as a child; this interest developed into a passion throughout law school and during my year spent articling at a full-service firm in Orillia. I gained extensive family law experience working at a firm in Barrie before taking the leap and opening Chapman Steffler LLP in 2017.
I understand that separation and divorce can be very overwhelming, especially when children are involved. I offer practical advice aimed at resolving issues rather than creating new ones. I am mindful of the expense of retaining a lawyer and will advise you of cost-efficient options to help you keep your costs to a minimum.
After many years of practicing family law exclusively, I added residential real estate to my roster of services. I enjoy the fast-paced and detail-oriented nature of the work, and the opportunity to help clients navigate what is often an exciting—but sometimes stressful—milestone with clarity and confidence.
I’m fluent in sarcasm, and it is not unusual to hear laughter coming from my office, even from clients coming in for their first consultation. I swear more than I probably should, and almost always choose jeans of suits. I take my work seriously, but not myself. When I’m not at the office, I can be found running, cooking, or enjoying the company of my family and our menagerie of pets.
